Inspiration
We were primarily inspired by software like Google Whiteboard and Obsidian’s Canvas feature for the app’s interface. As for its appearance, we based it on the event’s theme and the design appearance
What it does
A desktop application (Using the Electron framework) that transforms your files into a whiteboard-like interface rather than a simple list. Files, including folders, images, videos, and plain text, appear as bubbles with previews that persist after closing the app. You can drill down into sub-folders and drop files into the current folder. It’s an HCI track hackathon project, an alternative to a typical file explorer.
How we built it
Bubble File Manager was developed as a desktop application using Electron, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The interface was connected to the local file system and allowed files and directories to be displayed as draggable, resizable bubbles with previewing features. User navigation and file dragging were added to give a visual workspace experience. We used Git and studied Electron during development.
Challenges we ran into
It was a learning experience for many of us to develop a project and coordinate on a single codebase, as well as learning how to work with a web-based project using Electron, so a significant amount of time was spent getting us up to speed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to complete and create a working prototype of our idea and see how our concept works in practice.
What we learned
Many of us got our first experience working on a web-based project and collaboratively working on a project in git.
