Inspiration

Inspired by games, our CS101 class, and moral assessments Moral Machine Net Detroit become human Visual novels

AI Usage: Used Claude-AI and Roblox's in-built assistant to: debug code errors, write some of the scripts, help organize and coordinate our scripts, as well as guide our learning.

What it does

We designed a Roblox Game, that tackles the question of how future Artificial Intelligence should tackle complex moral dilemmas and make the most rational choice.

We really wanted to explore the nuance of how AI should handle morality, so when designing our game we considered aspects such as: How limited info can affect their decisions... The backgrounds of the concerned people, criminal vs doctor (do humans have value?) Pets vs people, elderly vs young, group of people vs one person? Are they obeying the law, or are they in a place they shouldn’t be? How can we use film-making techniques to immerse the player in this question? How does the restriction and pressure of a time limit affect their choice? LAW OF ROBOTICS

How we built it

We've built it using the popular Roblox Studio engine. In order to create awareness about the complex moral dilemmas that AI will have to face in the future, we wanted to create a narrative and story game to immerse the player into those situations. We also used Claude AI and Roblox's in-built AI assistant to help us design this project as mentioned above.

Challenges we ran into

We are not very experienced at creating games, and games especially on Roblox for that matter. Not only that, but we had to work on a team and coordinate our jobs to make sure neither of us was colliding with our intentions. Navigating how to work in a team and a new coding language was hard, but it was also really figuring things out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first time participating in an actual Hackathon. It was intense and stressful, but we were able to really coordinate and make a game that we were proud of. Not only that, but learning how to code and work with a complex object-orientated programming language like Lua was an invaluable learning experience.

What we learned

We learned how to navigate the intense time-pressure of a 24-hour time limit and combine ideas to make an amazing project we're both proud to be working on. It was also really informative to see how much bugs and restrictions came up in trying to produce these ideas on Roblox.

What's next for BU Colorfest 2026 Hackathon

Thank you, Binghamton University, as well as the sponsors for this event (Chobani, Bloomberg, M&T Bank) for gifting us such an amazing opportunity to showcase our ideas. Given our experience here, we hope to create even better projects in the future to convey our own thoughts about the world. Given more time, we would polish our narration of our problem and create a wider variety of ethical dilemmas to put the user in the mind of AI questioning the most rational choice.
