We are blessed to have 3 young, brilliant minds on our team that allowed us access to insights we never would have seen. Turns out even after attending BTPA, students have issues dealing with trauma, violence, and loss and want to reach out for help. One student watched his best friend die in front of his face shortly after completing the program and wants to help guide the next generation of students to take preventative steps so that they never have to deal with this sort of trauma. They also believe that there is a sense of community within the program that dissipates as soon as it ends and this led us to come up with an idea for an alumni support application.

What it does

  1. Counseling resources can help guide students in living happier, healthier, and safer lives. We will be using alumni Junior Medina to run workshops on grief, mental health, loss, and dealing with violence at a young age.
  2. An alumni support system will provide students with the means of communication necessary to maintain the BTPA community after graduating. Functionalities will include moderated group chats between officers and students, event and connection opportunities, a new way of analyzing alumni data and progress after graduation, and a Wisdom Wanted forum that allows students to reach out for help/advice in any topic they want.
