TikTok AI Shop

Inspiration

We wanted to find a smarter and simpler way to shop on TikTok, so we wanted to brainstorm features that would enhance users' shopping experience on TikTok.

What it does

This project features a video feed with a bottom navigation bar, closely mimicking the UI and functionality of the TikTok app. The main feature displays tagged products that are shown within the video, allowing users to find and discover products. The AI feature helps users to fact-check or learn more about the product without having to leave the TikTok app, making it more convenient. The "Similar products" feature also pulls similar items from Amazon to streamline the user's product navigation. The category button at the top right-hand corner allows users to choose from a diverse list of product categories to organize and expand their shopping list. The app lets you experience a dynamic video feed with a sleek bottom navigation bar, inspired by TikTok's UI and functionality.

How we built it

Frontend: React, Python, and Vite

Challenges we ran into

We were challenged when implementing the video feed to mimic the TikTok UI. While building the tagged products feature, we had trouble integrating the product images and overlay to the video feed. For the "Similar products" feature, we also spent a lot of time figuring out how to scrape from Amazon product results, but we eventually learned how to manually pull data from its html files. Lastly, we spent half of the time time debugging trying to integrate the buttons and data files.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a smooth, seamless mobile app that makes shopping easier for users. We are also proud of managing our time and work amongst the team, while maintaining communication and organized workflow.

What we learned

Besides learning git, team work, communication, task planning and execution, we learned how to develop a mobile application while using a computer setup. Also, we learned how to debug with different methods, such as using the inspect element console.

What's next for TikTok AI Shop

Integrating OpenAI within the AI feature to help users learn more about the product conveniently within the app. We would also add features on helping users how to make videos on selling products.
