Inspiration
We were inspired by the theme of the Hackathon: the intersection of the Arts and Tech. That led us to build an app involving Broadway shows. Because there's nothing that screams the arts and culture more than Broadway in NYC!
What it does
It's a web app that displays info about Broadway shows and let's users purchase tickets for their favorite Broadway shows
How we built it
We integrated lots of different frameworks, libraries and technologies and used a MySQL database for the back-end. We used styling to improve the appearance of the website, and added features like accepting payment methods to enhance the site's functionality.
Challenges we ran into
The learning curve was the biggest challenge. Every member of our team had to learn something new for this project. Whether it was what databases are and how they work, and which one to use, and how to push and pull data to/from it, or how frameworks such as React and Next.js work and how to use them to build websites, we each had a learning curve to climb for this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to communicate with each other effectively on our team's channel, work as a team, ask for help when we need it, and, on the technical side, combine all of the technologies we learned into one, very cool, very good-looking, very cutting-edge web app!
What we learned
Most importantly, we learned how to work as a team. We learned how to tackle a big problem and chop it up into bite-size pieces so that we are able to know what needs to be done in all aspects of the project and divide up the work into manageable parts for each of us to work on. We learned that organization and communication are really important when working on a big project. Aside from that, we also learned technical skills such as React, Next.js, integrating stripe, MySQL databases, and other hard skills.
What's next for Broadway Shows Web App
We are proud of what we accomplished and understand that there's always work for improvement. That's why we are currently working on getting our "sign in with Google" feature up and running so that users can benefit from the ease of signing in to our web app with the click of a button and with the help of a trusted name in tech.
