Inspiration

BRND STCK was inspired by my day-to-day operating an apparel brand. While there are many tools and companies that help apparel brands run such as email tools, analytic tools, shopify and shopify add-ons, and more. There is nothing built for the most important part: managing the brand. My work is so scattered between Photoshop, Figma, email, email platforms, Alibaba, notes and my brain, that it's hard to keep up with.

Shopify is the biggest ecommerce platform with record breaking $12 billion revenue and 20% growth rate in 2024, nearly 3x as much as any other platform. The audience is huge but it lacks powerful tools to make the most of the platform and their brands. That's where we come in.

What it does

BRND STCK is Jira for ecommerce brands.

  • Create stacks (kanban boards) for anything and everything you want.
  • Create pipelines (more rigid kanban boards) where you can set deadlines for steps in your production pipeline such as: design, pre-production, inventory ordered, inventory received, post-production and finally selling the product.
  • Sync, view and update products and orders in Shopify
  • Collaborate with teammates on projects
  • Get AI insights based on order data and history
  • You don't have to be on Shopify to use it (but you miss out on 1/2 the features)

How we built it

BRND STCK is proudly built on Bolt.new with Supabase as the backend. We also utilize OpenAI api for advanced analytics and of course the Shopiy Admin API for the Shopify integration. For our payment subscription system we use Stripe.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Bolt limitations - after a few weeks of going pretty hard with development I started getting project limits due to size. I tried to ignore files, use diff mode, clone the project and more. It helped some but still the context window seemed to be eating my tokens like no other. This has been pretty difficult to work with.

  2. When the page has a lot of state, it makes the AI work so much harder and often makes changes that you don't want. Breaking things up into smaller components or pages helps a lot.

  3. Stripe payments was super simple to implement until turning Stripe live. For some reason that portion is more difficult than the original test setup. Not really sure but I managed to get through it with successful subscriptions!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. I built a full working SaaS application that is useful for my daily work and now I get to share that with others, hopefully making a business out of it.

  2. The pipeline flow is so great. This is part of the project that cuts so much guessing out of the flow of my brands. I no longer have to go look at alibaba and my calendar to determine when products will be at my door, I just look at the pipeline.

What we learned

  1. Builders build, AI just makes it go faster.

  2. Building alongside my 9-5 has always been extremely challenging, simply due to time and energy. With Bolt I am able to move so much faster and without all the tireless building of boilerplate code. It really puts the fun back in development.

  3. This is my 4th project with Bolt (and have another in flight, so 5?) and I'm loving every minute of it. Seriously.

  4. While BRND STCK isn't an AI first project by any means, this is something the industry needs. Good software that solves a real problem. And helping others make more money by more efficient management pipelines.

What's next for BRND STCK

Next steps are to get 5 operators to use the platform and provide feedback. With my personal connections in the industry those conversations are already underway.

From there we will iterate, make fixes and features updates and then start putting some money into ads to grow the product.
