We built Brim Expense Intelligence to make expense management smarter and easier to understand. Instead of just tracking expenses, the goal was to help users analyze, validate, and make decisions with their data.
We created a system that combines a transaction dashboard, a rule-based compliance engine, a request and approval workflow, and an expense report generator. On top of that, we integrated an AI assistant to explain insights and answer questions, while keeping all core logic deterministic and reliable.
One of the biggest challenges was balancing AI with strict data grounding, so the assistant stays helpful without inventing information. We also had to design realistic workflows without building heavy backend systems.
Through this project, we learned that the real value comes from combining structured logic with AI explanations, and that clarity and usability are just as important as technical complexity.
