Inspiration
NGOs have a difficult time reaching volunteers. We all want to volunteer more but have had a hard time connecting with NGOs.
What it does
Creates a marketplace of volunteers so NGOs can reach them. Volunteers complete a profile that is active and automatically matched with new volunteering opportunities based on their availability. They are notified when a match occurs with information to participate during an event.
How we built it
We developed it with Python, Couchbase, and React.js
Challenges we ran into
We were originally developing it as a full react-native app by linking it to all the libraries necessary but ran into issues so switched to a web app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we made a fully functional application that addresses four of the five proposed challenges.
What we learned
We need more experience developing native mobile apps.
What's next for Brigaid
We will introduce machine learning to find volunteer opportunities that are similar to ones they've done previously. As a way to incentivize participation, volunteers see reports of hours volunteered and earn badges.
Using geolocation, volunteers can check in and out of an event. Providing organizations and volunteers with a record of participation.
