Briefly AI
Inspiration
Browsers are among the most frequently used applications on our devices. With the introduction of Google Gemini Nano’s built-in AI, a range of new possibilities has emerged for users. Previously, certain features were limited due to privacy concerns. However, with the integration of on-device AI, user data is now better protected, and the AI can function offline, eliminating the need for constant internet access.
What it does
Briefly AI is a smart digital assistant designed to simplify online communication and browsing. Its key features include:
- Smart Reply Suggestions: Automatically generates context-aware, thoughtful replies on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, reducing the time and effort needed for messaging.
- Instant Web Summaries: Provides concise summaries of web pages and search results, helping users find key information quickly and browse more efficiently.
How we built it
We developed Briefly AI using a combination of the following:
Google Gemini Nano AI Models
- Writer API: To power the smart reply suggestions to ensure accurate and context-sensitive outputs.
- Summarization API: To summarize links when hovered over. So we don't need to read the whle webpage to get an idea.
Challenges we ran into
- Ensuring Privacy: Balancing the need for powerful AI features with strict privacy requirements was a major challenge. We focused on local processing to keep user data secure.
- Integration Across Platforms: Achieving seamless functionality across different messaging platforms and browsers involved overcoming compatibility and API limitations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Privacy-First Approach: Successfully built a tool that prioritizes user privacy by leveraging on-device AI.
- User-Friendly Interface: Created an intuitive experience that simplifies communication and browsing without overwhelming users.
- AI-Driven Productivity: Introduced features that significantly enhance digital efficiency, from smart replies to instant web summaries.
What we learned
- Importance of Privacy in AI Tools: Users are more likely to adopt AI-driven solutions when their privacy is assured.
- User-Centric Design: Features need to be not only powerful but also intuitive and seamless to meet real-world user needs.
- AI Contextual Understanding: Fine-tuning AI for nuanced, polite communication can significantly improve user trust and satisfaction.
What's next for Briefly
- Expanded Features: Launching the website cheat sheet generator, email assistant, and customizable productivity tools.
- Cross-Platform Support: Expanding compatibility to include more messaging platforms and browsers.
- AI Personalization: Introducing user-specific settings to tailor replies and summaries based on individual preferences.
