Inspiration
We saw how many creators, founders, and niche IP pages rely on carousel posts to grow online, but making them consistently takes a lot of time: researching the topic, turning it into a story, matching a visual style, checking facts, and formatting every slide. CarouselSmith AI was built to help businesses, individuals, and content teams scale high-quality carousel creation without losing brand consistency.
What it does
CarouselSmith AI takes a website URL, topic, idea, source text, PDF, or design reference and turns it into a ready-to-use carousel. It researches the topic, creates a slide-by-slide narrative, generates visuals, keeps the design style consistent, and prepares captions. Users can download the carousel as a ZIP of PNG slides and manually upload them to Instagram or LinkedIn.
How we built it
We built it with React, Vite, Express, SQLite, Gemini, and optional OpenAI fallback support.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was making AI-generated designs consistent across all slides. Early outputs would change names, avatars, timestamps, or layout styles from slide to slide. Another challenge was factual accuracy, especially for time-sensitive prompts
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that CarouselSmith AI can go from a rough prompt to a full carousel workflow: research, plan, design, preview, history, caption, and ZIP export. We also built support for uploaded design references, prompt improvement, saved history, delete actions, and clean exports for manual posting. The product now handles both minimal text carousels and richer event-style poster carousels.
What we learned
We learned that good carousel generation is not just image generation. It needs research, structure, visual systems, layout control, and consistency rules. We also learned that deterministic rendering is important for professional results because AI alone can make text messy or inconsistent. The best output comes from combining AI creativity with strict product constraints.
What's next for CarouselSmith AI
Next, we want to add persistent cloud storage, better source verification, richer design templates, team workspaces, and direct publishing to Instagram and LinkedIn once developer app approvals are ready.
