Inspiration

Women are twice as likely to suffer from Alzheimer's Disease due to several underlying reasons and risk factors. Yet, it takes them 2.4 to 2.7 years longer to get diagnosed. These systemic sex-specific differences in Alzheimer's Disease have long been overlooked. CogniTrack is here to address some of these inequalities.

What it does

CogniTrack is an application that helps with discovering subtle symptoms of early-stage Alzheimer's Disease, especially in women. For this, we enable users to track possible symptoms, such as cognitive function and anxiety, depression and paranoia levels over a long time. For accessibility and focus on language variability as a screening indication, we also utilize an AI agent for speech communication.

How we built it

Our application is build in python with FastAPI, the UI is designed with html and JavaScript. For the speech agent, we use the Gemini Live Audio API.

Challenges we ran into

Structuring and surveying the research in such a broad research field as Alzheimer's, yet with such a specific goal like Women's Health was quite challenging, especially given the limited time frame. Additionally, translating the scientific findings into an application prototype under time constraints proved to be very difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to be addressing and raising awareness of such an important topic in women's health. Being able to develop a platform that puts the findings of research into practice and can help people is a really good outcome of this hackathon.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the challenges in Alzheimer's Disease diagnostic and the disease itself. Additionally, we learnt a lot about user-centric design, as such an application must be very user-friendly for users to experience the least resistance when using the service.

What's next for COGNITRACK: BRIDGING THE GENDER GAP IN ALZHEIMER'S SCREENING & DETECTION

We will implement a family-sharing feature such that caregivers also have access to the patient's data. Additionally, further diseases exhibiting cognitive impairment shall be considered.
