Inspiration
Most platforms tend to focus on advisors in areas like healthcare or finance, but career advisors are often overlooked, even though they deal with one of the most universal challenges: helping students transition into the real world of work.
We chose to focus on this space because it’s something almost every university student experiences firsthand. Whether it’s figuring out how to find the right internship or preparing for common interview questions, these are very real, relatable problems that can feel overwhelming without proper guidance. BridgeX is built around this exact journey. Instead of treating career support as scattered tasks, it brings everything together so advisors can better guide students.
What it does
BridgeX is an advisor-first career management platform that combines AI-powered insights with human coaching. Advisors get a centralized workspace to manage clients, monitor interview readiness, review AI-generated candidate summaries, schedule sessions, track referrals, and guide candidates through their career journey. Rather than replacing advisors, BridgeX helps them focus their time where it matters most by surfacing who needs attention and what actions should be taken next. Candidates receive their own preparation portal where they can complete mock interviews, view personalized feedback, track progress, communicate with their advisor, and work towards becoming employer-ready. Together, both sides create a connected coaching experience that takes candidates from preparation to placement.
How we built it
BridgeX was built as a full-stack web application designed around an advisor-first workflow. We developed the frontend using React, TypeScript, Vite, and Tailwind CSS to create a responsive and intuitive user experience for both advisors and candidates.
To simulate production-like functionality within the hackathon timeframe, we implemented a localStorage-based data layer that manages authentication, user sessions, candidate information, interview results, and advisor activities without requiring a backend service.
A key component of the platform is our AI-powered readiness engine, which analyzes candidate interview responses and resumes to generate readiness scores, identify strengths and skill gaps, and recommend actionable coaching insights for advisors. We also designed role-based interfaces to ensure advisors and candidates each have personalized experiences tailored to their needs.
Throughout development, we continuously refined the user journey to ensure that AI insights complemented, rather than replaced, human advisors, keeping career coaching at the center of the platform.
Challenges we ran into
This project took a major turn midway through the hackathon. We initially committed to our first idea and spent the entire first day building it out with full confidence. However, after the mentor session, we realized we were solving the wrong problem statement.
That moment forced a difficult decision: continue refining something that wasn’t aligned with the brief or pivot completely and risk losing all the progress we had made.
We spent the next 7 hours rethinking everything from scratch (re-evaluating the problem, brainstorming new directions, and deciding what we could realistically build within the remaining time while still delivering real value). It wasn’t an easy shift, but it pushed us to focus on clarity, impact, and feasibility.
In the end, we made the bold decision to pivot fully. We rebuilt the platform around a new, more meaningful direction and worked intensively under extreme time pressure to design, implement, and deploy the new version. Despite the setback, this pivot became the turning point that helped us shape a more focused and practical solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully pivoting our entire project midway through the hackathon and rebuilding a completely new solution under significant time constraints. Designing and delivering a fully functional advisor-first career management platform, a space that is often overlooked compared to traditional job seeker platforms. Developing a working end-to-end workflow where candidates complete mock interviews, receive personalized feedback, and automatically share results with advisors. Transforming a challenging setback into an opportunity to build a more meaningful, practical, and impactful solution.
What we learned
One of the biggest takeaways from this project is the importance of not rushing the early stages of a hackathon. Even when an idea feels strong, it’s crucial to slow down and really evaluate whether it aligns with the problem statement before committing fully.
We also learned how important clear communication is within a team. Disagreements and stress are almost inevitable in a time-constrained environment like this, but this project pushed us to communicate more openly, stay aligned, and support each other whenever challenges came up. Instead of working in isolation or letting frustration build up, we learned to actively collaborate and move forward as a team.
What's next for BridgeX4
Our vision for BridgeX extends beyond interview preparation. We plan to introduce a production-ready backend, real-time messaging, dynamic AI analysis powered by large language models and collaborative tools for advisor teams. We also want to build an employer-facing portal where organizations can discover advisor-vetted candidates who have been coached and marked as employer-ready. Ultimately, our goal is to become the operating system for career advisors, create stronger employment outcomes at scale.
