Inspiration
Aarav and I's parents where both immigrants and when they moved here they struggled to get accumulated to the environment and especially school life. We also see so many international students who are kind of closed off so we wanted to make a way so that they could fit in more with culture while remaining true to themselves.
What it does
It authenticates users, gives them personal profiles they can make and uses recomendation system to help them connect to people similar to them based on school, interest, hometown. Also allows real time messaging and group chats. Gives quizzes based on culture using llm to gather data and also quiz them so they can reinforce their learning.
How we built it
We built it using postgres for database where we used neon so it would be deployed in cloud and we would all use it, express, node for backend and react typescript for frontend.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with sockets converting messages to real time, notifications, making the quiz accurate and precise.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy we built it end to end and were able to deploy it. We stayed up all night and are very proud of how it came out.
What we learned
Above all we honestly learned about being resilient we literally coded for 24 hours straight.
