Inspiration

When we were kids, both of us grew up lost in books. We loved reading Harry Potter, but sometimes didn't like the way the book progressed or ended. What if the ending was different? What if we could decide how the story went? That “what if” never left us. Now, it has become the spark for BridgeTales AI, a world where kids aren’t just readers, but co-authors of their own adventures.

What it does

BridgeTales AI transforms bedtime stories into living, breathing experiences. Kids can make choices, shape endings, and see their imagination unfold in real time. Each story also includes small, meaningful tasks that teach empathy, saving, and giving. Through Visa’s secure payment system, parents can support local bookstores, toy shops, and artists featured in their child’s stories, turning imagination into real-world impact.

How we built it

We built BridgeTales AI on AWS Bedrock for generative storytelling, AWS Polly for natural narration, and AWS Titan for custom visuals. Our backend, built with FastAPI and React, manages emotional tone, branching logic, and safety layers. We integrated Visa APIs for community micro-purchases, making every bedtime story a way to fund creativity in local neighborhoods.

Challenges we ran into

Finding the balance between creativity and control was tough because we wanted the AI to stay fun, safe, and emotionally aware. We also worked through the night, figuring out how to integrate Visa payments in a kid-friendly way while keeping the experience smooth. But those debugging sessions are definitely worth the effort as we learnt a lot from building BridgeTales AI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we built something bigger than code, but powered by tech. Our prototype combines AWS Bedrock for story generation, AWS Polly for voice narration, and AWS Titan for image generation. We built the backend using FastAPI with endpoints for story orchestration. On the frontend, we used React for the dashboard. We implemented a tokenized micro-transaction system that connects stories to verified local merchants through Visa APIs. Seeing it all come together, hearing the AI speak a child’s choices, and watching the payment confirmation trigger a donation to a real store was genuinely one of the best things that has happened in our lives.

What we learned

We learned that innovation isn’t just about technology, it’s about how technology feels. We mastered multi-modal integration, synchronizing voice, text, and emotion data in real time, while maintaining safety filters for kid-friendly storytelling. We learned to use prompt engineering and context persistence. We also learned that fintech and emotional AI can co-exist, code can teach empathy, payments can build community, and friendship can drive innovation. As teammates, we discovered that our childhood curiosity could become something real. And this is proof that the best stories start with “What if?” and end with “We built it.”

What's next for BridgeTales - AI

Next, we want to collaborate with local authors, educators, and libraries to expand our story universe. We’re adding multilingual narration, school partnerships, and cultural tales to make BridgeTales accessible to every child. Because when kids realize their voices can change the story, they start to believe their voices can change the world.
