Inspiration
Useful guidance is often buried in long, difficult instructions, inaccessible language, or websites that stop working offline. BridgeKit reduces complexity to one practical action at a time.
What it does
BridgeKit helps people create, follow, and share step-by-step guides for learning, job preparation, digital confidence, and community activities. It works without accounts or paid APIs.
How we built it
A newly created MIT-licensed, static progressive web app using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, browser storage, service worker caching, Web Speech API and Web Share API. The layout supports English and Arabic, including RTL typography. AI assisted with development and documentation; no AI inference API is embedded.
Features
- Four bilingual starter journeys
- Custom guide creation/editing (up to 12 steps)
- Checklists and progress tracking that persist locally
- Offline app caching after first online visit
- Read-aloud where browser support exists
- Guide sharing via encoded URL, printable worksheets, JSON backups
- Mobile-first accessibility affordances, keyboard focus and reduced motion
Challenges
Developing a no-backend experience that is useful offline, local-first, easy to navigate in both LTR and RTL layouts, and safe when users import shared content.
Accomplishments
A functional dependency-free MVP with a reusable step-by-step reader, builder, library, and progress overview. JavaScript syntax checks passed. Browser end-to-end tests could not be completed in the test environment because browser navigation was blocked; this limitation is disclosed.
What's next
Community translation contributions, accessibility validation with actual users, safer guide review workflows and improved printable export.
