Inspiration

As students, we often struggle alone when help is just one message away. BridgeBuddy is a social-good platform that connects students for help, mentorship, and support — all in one place.

What it does

BridgeBuddy allows users to:

  • Sign up and log in securely
  • Post help requests or offer help
  • Browse a list of peers who are offering support
  • Contact them directly (email/message)

How we built it

We started with the Hackathon Starter Boilerplate built on:

  • Node.js + Express.js
  • MongoDB + Mongoose
  • EJS templates + Bootstrap
  • OAuth + Local Auth (Google, Facebook, Email)

Challenges we ran into

Getting MongoDB + Auth + Routes working together was tough at first, but we leaned on community docs and open source support to get it done fast.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Full auth system up and running
  • Clean UI using Bootstrap
  • Easy-to-use help/request interface

What we learned

  • How to rapidly prototype full-stack apps
  • Authentication and session handling
  • Using GitHub effectively in a team

What's next

  • Add real-time chat using socket.io
  • Deploy to Vercel/Render
  • Partner with NGOs or schools for real-world use
