Inspiration

We have access to more information than ever before, but as algorithms evolve unconsciously, they also deepen social division.

I want Bridge to do two things:
first, to ease information overload and break filter bubbles;
second, to soften oppositional emotions and help build understanding.

When it comes to “rebuilding connection,” I hope everyone can approach it as:
“I am willing to accept, and I choose to engage.”

What it does

Bridge helps people discover and understand diverse topics, rather than being overwhelmed by information or emotions:

  1. Filtering information bubbles
From dense and fragmented information, Bridge identifies issues worth paying attention to and turns them into clear, easy-to-understand summaries, while expanding relevant knowledge points to spark curiosity.

  2. Going beyond a single perspective
In a polarized, black-and-white public discourse, Bridge helps people see more perspectives and understand different positions, so they can step out of a single narrative and make more well-grounded judgments.

How we built it

  1. Discuss product design and presentation structure with Gemini, grounded in the core concept
  2. Use AI Studio to generate and iteratively refine the feature interfaces
  3. Download the code locally and run it in Cursor to create a subtitled video demo, with voice-over narration generated by AI Studio

Challenges we ran into

  1. Product design
I originally wanted to use AI to reduce complexity, but showing too much information actually increased the cognitive burden. I had to continuously make trade-offs to balance richness and clarity.

  2. Differentiation
Early versions looked very much like a conventional news app. Later, I added more intuitive interpretations of information and eventually redesigned the homepage into a dual layout of “Context” and “Lens.”

  3. Working with AI Studio
A constant challenge was AI Studio itself. As the project iterated, inconsistencies accumulated, sometimes causing repeated errors or rendering failures. There are still layout details I want to optimize but cannot complete due to tool limitations.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

“Less but clearer” is much harder than “more but louder.”
Bridge aims to make people more curious and more calm, rather than addicted or angry.

Artificial intelligence should be an extension of human rationality, not a generator of more digital noise.
Here, AI actively helps us see more and understand more deeply, instead of merely producing content or acting as a passive tool.

What we learned

  1. Designing a product for the first time made me aware of my own cognitive limits. A product is not just a collection of features; it should make users want to use it, know how to use it, and enjoy using it.

  2. Using AI Studio for the first time was full of surprises. It could generate complete, beyond-expectation pages from an initial idea, and when I struggled to articulate my thoughts, the “Annotate app” feature was especially helpful.

What’s next for Bridge

  1. I don’t yet fully understand how the code works, so my next step is to connect real data, observe how it performs, and iterate on the features based on that.

  2. Further optimize content and UI to make serious topics more engaging, so people from different backgrounds—whether young or old, teachers or farmers—can understand it, stay with it, and explore with curiosity.
