AIM: Connect people together through social activities designed to help improve mental health and wellbeing.

Long waiting lists means that people are often suffering by themselves whilst waiting for appointments. We wanted to bridge the gap between realising help is needed and starting one-to-one therapy; and stop people from feeling so alone through this healing journey. We wanted to create a positive community for people to engage in and celebrate progress made together.

This app is designed to build social connections amongst people with poor mental health, instead of being approached by an AI which would give automated responses.

What it does

The app is divided into 4 sections:

  • Mood Tracker
  • Social Activities
  • Chats
  • Practical tips

The Mood Tracker tracks the individual’s mood every day and allows them to journal and talk about their feelings. Journalling allows the individual to keep a record of personal thoughts and feelings, improving their self awareness, and encouraging them to regulate their emotions. By processing their feelings in a healthy manner, it allows them to break away from a nonstop cycle of obsessive thinking.

Social Activities prevent people from isolating themselves, through group activities with shared interests, like gardening clubs, walking societies, and book clubs.

The Chatting feature allows individuals to chat with their group therapy chat, which is led by a mental health advisor, or on a 1-2-1 basis with their mental health advisor. The group therapy aspect is designed to alleviate the workload on the mental health advisor and build a social setting to work through issues.

The Practical Tips page gives practical tips and tricks to boost your mental health through exercise and socialisation.

How we built it

This prototype was built using Figma and was a collaboration from all four of us, introducing into the app ways we thought we could improve our mental health, and how we wanted to be helped during our low moods.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an app that prioritised healing through social interaction and activity, but also had an aspect of privacy for each individual, as well as building a log of mental well-being which could be utilised by future therapists.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Within the 24-hour period, we designed and created a functioning prototype, that shows how all the different features would look and how the different pages connect.

What we learned

  • How to use Figma.
  • How to work well as a team.
  • How to manage our time appropriately, whilst also having fun.

What's next for Bridge?

Next steps include turning this prototype into a fully functioning app, allowing people to download and use the current features.
