We are the current & former Co-Leads of Kindred, ELC North America’s Disability & Mental Health Employee Resource Group, and all members of the disability community. We are deeply passionate about accessible beauty and are thrilled to take part in this Hackathon.
We know that millions of people with disabilities love beauty, as evidenced by the millions of followers of disability beauty influencers across social media platforms. And we know that addressing the needs of the disability community is a huge business opportunity for ELC, as 15-20% of people have physical disabilities, and in the US PWDs are the 3rd largest market segment, with a discretionary income of $21B.
And Yet the Needs of beauty lovers with disabilities are not met by the beauty industry. Products are not accessible, information on accessible beauty is dispersed, and there is no place to find and connect with beauty lovers with similar disabilities. This leaves beauty lovers with disabilities feeling excluded from the beauty space and isolated from one another, and leaves great ideas for a more accessible beauty industry on the table.
We want to build bridges between beauty lovers with disabilities as well as beauty lovers to ELC.
