Inspiration
Millions of mid-career workers are being displaced by automation and AI, yet most retraining platforms are designed for students or young professionals. We wanted to build a solution that values experience instead of replacing it, helping workers transition into growing industries without starting their careers from scratch.
What it does
BridgeWork is an AI-powered career transition platform that analyses a user's work history to identify transferable skills, matches them to in-demand careers, and recommends the shortest, most relevant upskilling pathway. It partners with accredited learning providers and focuses on one metric above all else: helping users secure employment.
How we built it
We built BridgeWork using an AI-driven skills extraction and career matching pipeline. Users can either choose from guided career transition paths or describe their professional journey in natural language. The AI identifies transferable competencies, compares them with live labour market demand, calculates the minimal skill gap, and generates a personalised learning roadmap. The platform was designed with a simple, accessible interface to ensure it is approachable for users with varying levels of digital literacy.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was accurately translating unstructured career experiences into measurable, transferable skills. We also had to balance personalised recommendations with simplicity, ensuring users received actionable guidance without being overwhelmed by information.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a solution that addresses a genuine economic problem rather than simply another educational platform. Instead of recommending generic courses, BridgeWork builds personalised career bridges based on existing strengths. We also developed a concept that creates value for workers, employers, training providers, and governments simultaneously.
What we learned
Throughout the project, we gained a deeper understanding of structural unemployment, labour market dynamics, and the importance of transferable skills. We also learned how AI can move beyond automation and become a tool that empowers people by recognising the value of their existing experience.
What's next for BridgeWork
Our next goal is to integrate live job market data, expand partnerships with accredited training providers, and incorporate real employment outcomes to continuously improve our recommendation engine. In the future, we hope to collaborate with governments and employers to make BridgeWork a scalable solution for tackling workforce displacement on a national and global level.
