Inspiration
This project was inspired by a gap I see constantly among ambitious women: the space between knowing what you want and actually taking action. The challenge is usually not a lack of inspiration, for motivated, curious, and driven women, it’s overwhelm. Big dreams often arrive all at once, making it hard to know where to start and everything feels urgent or intimidating, so you don't take any action.
Brick by Brick was designed to close that gap by making progress feel tangible, finite, and emotionally safe. Instead of asking users to feel confident before acting, the app helps them build confidence through movement, one small step at a time. I wanted each step to be intentionally small, time-boxed, and achievable, so momentum replaces hesitation.
Progress is visualized as bricks that stack upward over time. Each completed micro-task becomes a literal building block, to show the user how far they've come. This metaphor mirrors how real goals are achieved, not through sudden leaps, but through consistent, manageable effort.
How It Works
Users begin by unloading everything that’s on their mind into a little analog phone, unfinished ideas, what needs to get done, what their goals are. This removes the pressure to organize or plan solo, just speak it all out loud.
The app uses AI to break that unstructured input into clear tasks, then further into micro-tasks that can realistically be completed in 15–20 minutes.
Instead of presenting long to-do lists, Brick by Brick encourages users to select (or be randomly given) just one micro-task to focus on.
Each task runs on a short timer, reinforcing that effort is finite and manageable. Users don’t need to finish everything, they just need to do this one thing.
Completing a task adds a brick to the user’s stack, gradually building from grounded beginnings into expansive possibility. Progress becomes something you can visually see.
Permission Slips Alongside action, the app delivers gentle affirmations, reminders that users are allowed to feel proud, ask for help, rest, or move imperfectly. These reinforce mindset while momentum is being built.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was balancing playfulness with purpose.
I wanted the experience to feel rewarding and visually delightful without turning progress into a distraction or game. The solution was to ensure that all visual rewards are earned through real action, the world only grows when the user moves.
Another challenge was scope control: resisting the urge to build a full planner or habit system. Keeping the focus on one step at a time was critical to staying aligned with the original problem.
Brick by Brick is about building a dream life the way it actually happens, slowly, intentionally, and through small acts of courage.
By turning overwhelm into clarity, and effort into something visible, the app helps ambitious women move from dreaming to doing, not all at once, but brick by brick.
