Inspiration

Long queues, manual order handling, and limited visibility into order status are common challenges in many cafés. Customers often have to wait without knowing whether their order is being prepared, while baristas juggle multiple orders with limited digital support.

We wanted to create a modern, cloud-based solution that simplifies the entire café experience for both customers and staff. Our goal was to build a platform where customers could order seamlessly, track their orders in real time, and where baristas could efficiently manage orders through an intuitive dashboard.

Challenges we faced

Building BrewQ involved solving several real-world engineering challenges:

  • Implementing live order tracking between customers and baristas.
  • Managing backend deployment across Render and Vercel.
  • Configuring MongoDB Atlas securely for cloud deployment.
  • Debugging API routing, CORS, and environment variable issues.
  • Handling server cold starts on the Render free tier.
  • Creating a clean and intuitive dashboard while maintaining performance.
  • Building a workflow that supports both digital and cash payments.

Each challenge helped us better understand cloud deployment, full-stack development, and production-ready application design.
