Inspiration

Specialty coffee sourcing is fragmented and trust-heavy. Buyers struggle to verify quality and reliability, while sellers risk being bypassed after making introductions. We were inspired by real conversations with coffee exporters and cooperatives, which revealed that the biggest problems aren’t discovery or pricing, but trust, incentives, and information asymmetry.

What it does

BrewMaster is a coffee sourcing platform that connects buyers and sellers with built-in trust mechanisms. Sellers list coffee lots with quality and production details, while buyers browse, filter, and match based on preferences. The platform introduces quality signals, analytics for sellers, and commission-aware workflows to reduce friction and discourage disintermediation.

How we built it

We designed BrewMaster as a two-sided platform:

Separate buyer and seller flows

Seller analytics for visibility into performance

Buyer search and filtering for efficient discovery

An AI assistant to guide users and clarify lot details

The system models real coffee-trade workflows, from listing to negotiation, while keeping the architecture simple enough to scale.

Challenges we ran into

Translating informal, trust-based coffee trading into structured digital workflows

Designing features that add real value without overengineering

Balancing speed (hackathon constraints) with realism and domain accuracy

Avoiding generic marketplace patterns that don’t reflect coffee-specific pain points

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a domain-specific marketplace instead of a generic platform

Designing trust and incentive-aware features grounded in real industry behavior

Delivering clear buyer and seller experiences within a short timeframe

Creating a project that can be explained deeply, not just demoed

What we learned

In complex markets, trust matters more than features

Domain understanding beats generic “AI-first” solutions

Simple, well-chosen mechanisms outperform flashy complexity

Building for real users forces better technical and product decisions

What's next for BrewMaster

Expand the quality confidence and seller reliability signals

Add transaction lifecycle tracking and delivery confirmation

Integrate real pricing and logistics data

Pilot the platform with small specialty coffee exporters and buyers
