Inspiration
India has a pretty big issue when it comes to the disposal of garbage, so much so that you won't be surprised if you see a huge dump of garbage in a public space.
One night, I was out with my friends hopping clubs in the streets of Bangalore and I saw this huge dump ground... In the middle of a McDonald's and a Brewery. That just didn't sit right with me, and I thought to myself if there were a way to solve this issue on a larger scale.
That's when I thought of the early concept of Breezy.
What it does
Breezy focuses on the long term involvement of the community incentivised to report garbage accumulation in areas around them. Involvement is assured by gamifying the experience for users using Octalysis, ultimately making Breezy a daily part of our users’ lives.
How we built it
We used Flutter and Google's Firebase and Cloud services for the initial prototype development
Challenges we ran into
Since I had already ideated Breezy last year and did a lot of market research and idea validation in the past 6 months or so, we had to iterate a lot of the ideas we had, the revenue model we had, the technologies we should use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
During the ideation phase of our start-up, we needed to validate our market research and ideas, for the same we participated in ideathons (ideation hackathons) and won multiple National ideathons. We even got a Grant by the Government of India to build upon our idea.
What we learned
Over the course of building Breezy from the ground up, it was inevitable that we run into problems and to move forward successfully, we overcame them and learnt a lot from each problem, it was as small as how to present Breezy to a panel of judges to learn how to develop applications with flutter with my teammates!
What's next for Breezy
As of now, we've completed our prototype for Breezy with the help of HackDartMouth, and we are currently looking at getting in touch with more people who can help us setting up the logistics network for Breezy. Here is a phase by phase plan of Breezy for 2021:
Q1: MVP Stage
- Complete the first version of the application
- Get rid of potential Bugs
- Test it in house
- Get access to Database/Cloud Services
Q2: Field Testing/Bugs/Working in small area
- Try the app out in an area, maybe even our college
- Fix bugs accordingly
- Figure potential friction points in logistics
Q3: Collaborations (Govt/Local Shops on board)
- Yet to choose a revenue model (SaaS to Government/Private)
- Collaborate with Local vendors and Corporate chains to get them on board for our gamification experience
- if Private: Setting up a logistics system to ensure seamless picking up of garbage around the city and safe disposal of the same.
- If SaaS: Get an agreement with separate state governments, starting with Karnataka and use their logistics system
Q4: Friction free ecosystem + Onboarding users
- Make sure everything is in place and works with minimal issues
- Have a soft launch for the application
- Test the application with a few users currently limited to Bangalore.
How to Breezy?
Requesting a Breezy is just like calling an Uber. You click a photo of the area needed to be cleaned and then enter the location and request a Breezy. You can then track the progress of your request & view the number of points you’ve earned for that request. After you’ve accumulated a certain amount of points, you can redeem some coupons. Have a look at the video above for the demonstration.
Major Competitors
Obviously, we are not first to the market... But technically, we are. Swachh Delhi, which is the major competitor of Breezy, for lack of a better phrase... Just doesn’t work. (the gist: Most people have a negative outlook of The Swachch Delhi application, < 2 Stars on Play Store AND App Store)
Application
Breezy can be implemented across the globe with little to no modifications. With Breezy, we have built a a global solution. Starting with the Indian market, we have envisioned Breezy to be a multilingual platform, catering to the diverse Indian demographic, ensuring seamless integration into the user's daily lives.
Since Breezy is multilingual, in addition to the revenue model built, a SaaS model could be implemented where we leverage the garbage accumulation logistics network of the individual states themselves. This partnership is made easier by the support that the Ministry of Electronics and IT has provided to Breezy by partnering with us!
Final Result
Through Breezy, within a span of 5 years, we hope to have collected and safely disposed off 0.2 million tonnes of garbage. Saving 1.5 lives every 10 minutes.
We discuss the more intricate details in the video/presentation attached below
