Inspiration
As we examined the heat/cold pack that was given to us by Starterhacks, we were reminded of when we were younger and we put wet towels on our forehead to cool ourselves down in times of high fevers or other illnesses. We were inspired to develop a device that was more efficient than simply a wet towel, simultaneously beneficial for the sake of healthcare while reducing caregiver strain.
What it does
Breeze is based on a Peltier device that actively removes heat from the forehead, cooling you down and venting the heat into the room around you.
How we built it
The Peltier device is connected to a microcontroller, forming a negative feedback loop in order to regulate the temperature of the forehead.
Challenges we ran into
Because hardware was not available for the hackathon, we were not able to prototype a device that fully satisfied our expectations. Design may require further refining.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of coming up with a product that would help numerous people around the world, struggling to find adequate healthcare or a caregiver.
What we learned
We learned that just throwing ideas around can create something useful -- inspiration can come from the strangest places sometimes!
What's next for Breeze
Hardware prototyping followed by possible trials. Possible expansion of idea into a whole range of wearable goods (shirts, etc.)
