Inspiration

One thing I noticed is that everyone focuses on tracking things like sleep, heart rate, steps, calories, and workouts with their smartwatch or with certain apps, but nobody pays attention to breathing and breathing is super important so I decided to do something about it.

What it does

Breathy guides users through personalised ai created breathing exercises and then asks a few quick reflection questions afterward to analyze the results of the breathing exercise to personalize future exercises. I also added a daily streak system to encourage people to stay consistent and build healthy habits over time.

How we built it

I built the entire app on my own using vibecoding and personal coding skills while on a road trip . Instead of trying to make everything perfect on the first try, I kept improving it through multiple versions. I went through about six rounds of building, testing, and refining before I was happy with the final experience. Most of my time went into making the breathing work and actually personalized and improving the flow and onboarding and polishing the UI so the app felt clean and enjoyable to use.

Challenges we ran into

Originally, I wanted Breathy Ai to analyze a user's breathing by listening to audio recordings and giving feedback on how effective their breathing technique was. However I realized that there wasn't a reliable dataset of breathing recordings to compare against, so I couldn't accurately validate that kind of analysis so I shifted the app toward guided breathing exercises and self-reflection.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that I was able to take the challenge i faced and succesully pivot to a different solution instead of giving up. In the end, I created an app that encourages people to build healthier habits and be more mindful of something they do thousands of times every day. Im also proud I was able to do this all while being inside a hotel.

What we learned

The biggest lesson I learned was how important it is to scope a project realistically. I learned that focusing on a smaller set of features and making them work really well leads to a much better final product especially for a hackathon with a limited amount of time .

What's next for Breathy Ai

I'd love to integrate with devices like the Apple Watch so Breathy can use health data to recommend the best breathing exercises at the right time.
