Inspiration
My project is inspired by children being most affected now a days in cities where air quality index is extremely poor. This was not the case 20-30 years back when we were kids. The quality of air and nature we were brought in was amazing. So, all we can do is try to fix it and fight it with the use of technology
What it'll does
You just open the app in your mobile or laptop's browser, allow location permission and rest it takes care by finding out the air quality index and suggest you if you should really spend time outside. Not just this but also you can search the location of your parents, family and friends and alert them as well to take necessary precaution before it's too late.
How we building it
We are built a similar solution during Covid which helped many and was liked by many people. We are using HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, Mongodb, Django hosted on AWS. We are using OpenAQ data which is part of the Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative to plot the heatmap on Google Maps for easier access.
Challenges we ran into
Main challenge that we are facing is having a full blown server to run our code and pull the data on to MongoDB for which also we need EC2 instances. Currently we are planning to do it on local but we need help hosting it on cloud.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud being helpful to the society in some way
What we learned
We as techies can leave bigger impact quickly so we need to step up and take initiatives other than our day jobs as well
What's next for BreathWisely
- Automated Alerts if air quality goes down or betters so that the app just doesn't stops you but also helps to go out when the nature is at it's best.
- Analytics on where air quality is being improved and sharing data to other places to take inspiration from them to improve the air quality index.
