I’ve been working in tech for the past 7–8 years, and over the last four, I’ve consistently put in 10 to 12 hours a day. When you work that intensely for such long stretches, the effects on your body and mind start to compound—quickly.
Physically, your posture deteriorates, weight gain becomes common, and with that comes a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more. Mentally, issues like anxiety, isolation, and the inability to truly relax start creeping in. I’ve experienced all of these firsthand—and I’m only 8 years into my career. I can only imagine the toll it takes on people who’ve spent 20–25 years at a desk.
But recently, something changed.
Over the past few weeks, I started doing a simple 15-minute daily routine of stretching and meditation. And honestly, it’s been life-changing. In just a couple of weeks, my posture improved, I feel healthier and more energized, and many of the issues I struggled with started to fade. The most surprising part? It took only a few minutes a day. The returns have been exponential—far greater than the time investment.
That’s what inspired Breathing Break.
The app reminds you to take breaks, and when you do, you’re guided through short, restorative routines that fit perfectly into your workday. I literally keep 50 tabs open, but even then, that gentle nudge from Breathing Break helps me pause and reset. And if it can help someone like me, I believe it can help thousands of others too.
In the U.S. alone, companies lose an average of $21,000 per employee each year due to physical and mental health-related issues. About 68% of employees suffer from these challenges, contributing to a $300 billion drain on the economy annually.
Breathing Break isn’t just an app—it’s a movement to address a growing crisis in the modern workplace. And I’m building it because I’ve lived the problem and found a simple, scalable way to solve it.
