💡 Inspiration

Human life relies on the process of breathing. Breathing is the basic living process on which life depends. With breathing, we inhale air and that is circulated throughout the body so it matters, what are we breathing and how are we breathing. Yet with time and lifestyle, people have forgotten how to breathe properly.

If breathing is taken seriously and done with utter care and consciousness it can benefit the body and can increase the efficiency of everyday life and process. Breathing is a workout in itself for the body

Many people do not breathe properly, and this can cause a range of challenges — from headaches and shortness of breath, to unnecessary anxiety and stress. To breathe properly means to exhale air completely out of the lungs (until they are empty) and to inhale air deeply enough that the air fills the lungs completely. The abdomen (not the shoulders) should move in and out as you breathe. This proper breathing process is essential for getting enough oxygen in each breath cycle. planning

Breathing exercises can help make your lungs more efficient and may be beneficial for reducing the impact of COVID-19 before, during, and after a confirmed diagnosis.

🤳 What it does

Breathe.ly gamifies teaching the right way to breathe. Simple yet intuitive animation helps users to follow the right process and practice Box-Breathing. Box breathing is a powerful, yet simple, relaxation technique that aims to return breathing to its normal rhythm. This breathing exercise may help to clear the mind, relax the body, and improve focus. The technique is also known as “resetting your breath” or four-square breathing. It is easy to do, quick to learn, and can be a highly effective technique for people in stressful situations.

Users get scores depending on the number of rounds they complete and also get recommendations on the basis of their breathing pattern.

⚙️ How we built it

I built it using Flutter, a cross-platform app development framework by Google that allows us to use the same codebase to develop apps for iOS, Android, web platforms. I used various packages and trained the TensorFlow Lite model that classifies audio (breathing and background noise) and then captures amplitudes of breathing patterns (inhale, exhale) which are then used to do the analysis of the pattern.

🏅 Accomplishments

Though I started a bit late, I still managed to get a lot done. I know my parents and other family members will definitely use this app so I am proud of making something useful for them :)

🤔 Challenges we ran into

I began with some structural ideas on Figma and then started implementing them on Flutter.

  • Struggled with the audio recording feature and spent a lot of time debugging. I also tried adding Auth0 authentication but somehow it didn't work so I had to remove that part and move on to work on other stuff. Despite the limited amount of time, I managed to make a working app.

🤔 What did we learn:

I learned a lot about different packages, the implementation of the TensorFlow Lite model for audio classification, and other stuff.

💭 What's next for Breathe.ly:

  • More exercises, tips, and recommendations for our users.
  • Compete with friends and grow together.
