Inspiration
I wanted to create a solution for people like me who love the fresh air breeze from open windows but also suffer from pollen allergies. It's always a challenge to determine if there's pollen in the air, what type of pollen it is, the overall air quality, and even the weather without opening multiple tabs. So, I designed something that caters to this specific group of individuals. This solution helps them identify what they're allergic to and enables them to open their windows, switch off their AC and lights, save on electricity costs, and, most importantly, breathe easy.
What it does
Breathe Easy is a tool that gathers data from multiple APIs and computes whether it's safe for you to open your windows and breathe comfortably. Additionally, it features a tracking function that helps you identify if you have a higher sensitivity to particular types of pollen or air pollutants. The tool also correlates this information with your general well-being to identify any patterns for users.
How we built it
I built it using Swift and SwiftUI in Xcode.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge I encountered was getting the APIs to function correctly. Parsing through excessive data to extract the necessary information was also a significant obstacle that made quantifying the data more difficult than I initially anticipated.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I take pride in my most significant achievement of creating the app alone. Juggling the roles of product manager, graphic designer, and software developer consumed more time than I expected. Completing the entire project within the given timeframe was more challenging than anticipated.
What we learned
During the project, I had the opportunity to learn several new skills, and one of them was utilizing Swift's graph API.
What's next for Breathe Easy
My primary focus for the next project is to store user information in an online database instead of keeping it only on the local phone.
