Inspiration
The main goal is to aid in global efforts to change our environment for the better. We believe that by focusing on areas that have poor air quality we can aid the planet and the people suffering in these areas.
What it does
Breath of Fresh Air allows one to search and locate for areas that are affected the most by low air quality. Once you find an area that is in need of help we can point you to different environmental groups in the area to get involved by planting trees and caring for the environment.
How we built it
We built it using node js as our backend and standard html, and css for the frontend to create our web app.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges passing data from the front end to backend and vice-versa. Also when implementing our map with different data for locations the map did not render properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to search a specified location and find the nearby cities with low air quality. Then displaying selected locations on the map. Listing the top ranking polluters
What we learned
We learned a lot about http requests and how to properly integrate the frontend with the backend. About the different ways air quality is affected.
What's next for Breath of Fresh Air
We want to add a feature to integrate different types of trees based on the area and find areas of free space to plant the trees.
