Inspiration
More people are spending more time with their screens since the pandemic started, and more people are experiencing musculoskeletal pains and worked-related stress. We think that simply taking a break regularly can help reduce a lot of these symptoms. Along with that, mental health and ergonomics resources should be more accessible.
What it does
Our project connects people with destressing resources with a Google Chrome extension. It has a 'break timer' that encourages you to take a break at the user's desired time, e.g. every 30 minutes. It does so by opening a destressing website that prompts you to breathe after each time interval. It also includes resources to help you destress, e.g. improving ergonomics and doing stretches. If needed, the user can also easily access mental health resources with a button.
How we built it
We referenced an existing Chrome extension and expanded its functionalities. We also watched many javascript tutorials to help us develop it and had help from BostonHacks mentors as well.
Challenges we ran into
None of us knew Javascript.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a project using Javascript despite none of us having prior knowledge of Javascript.
What we learned
Javascript.
What's next for Breaks4U
We can add more features and improve user experience, e.g. adding a countdown to the next break interval, choosing the amount of cycles/breaks you want, improving the design, etc.
