Inspiration
As a leader in global business operations, I saw firsthand how poor translation fractured cross-border teams—legal contracts misinterpreted, meeting discussions lost, and inconsistent terminology eroding trust. I wanted to build a solution that wasn’t just literal translation, but culturally adaptive and industry-aligned, grounded in ISO 17100 standards to meet enterprise compliance needs.
What it does
TranslationAgent delivers enterprise-grade AI translation for business communications: document translation (100% format preservation), real-time meeting translation (300ms max latency), centralized terminology management, and ISO 17100-certified quality assurance—supporting 120+ languages across legal, financial, and technical industries.
How we built it
We started by mapping core user needs (global ops managers, legal teams, sales execs) and prioritized format preservation and real-time processing. We integrated cloud-based AI models (TensorFlow/PyTorch) for context-aware translation, built API connectors for video conferencing tools, and developed a PostgreSQL-backed terminology database with approval workflows. The frontend (React) focused on intuitive dashboards for document uploads, meeting setup, and QA tracking.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was keeping real-time meeting translation latency under 300ms while syncing subtitles and speaker identification—we had to optimize audio processing pipelines and cloud resource allocation. We also struggled with enforcing custom terminology across 120+ languages; solving this required building AI-powered term extraction and approval workflows to align team usage.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We achieved 100% format preservation for translated documents (PDF/Word/Excel/PowerPoint), hit sub-300ms latency for real-time translation, and built a fully ISO 17100-compliant QA workflow with audit trails. The platform now supports seamless integration with all major video conferencing tools, and user testing showed 95% satisfaction with terminology consistency.
What we learned
We learned that enterprise translation success hinges on context, not just accuracy—cultural adaptation and industry-specific nuance matter more than literal word-for-word translation. We also gained deep insights into compliance workflows for global businesses, and how critical team collaboration features are for terminology management.
What's next for this project
We plan to expand video conferencing integrations, add mobile-responsive UI enhancements (beyond basic responsiveness), and build API marketplace access for third-party developers. We’re also exploring AI-powered cross-cultural communication coaching to complement translation, and on-premise deployment options for enterprise clients.
