Break Glass

Inspiration

Break Glass is a product I wish had existed when I experienced my first international earthquake. I was in Bangkok when the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered near Mandalay, Myanmar. The deadly tremor spread across the region and reached Thailand when I was away on holiday with my family. The disaster shook everyone to their core because it was an event that the locals had never experienced before. My family and I narrowly escaped our Airbnb, which still stood even after the tremors. We were scared, and I didn't know how to react or what to do then. I made Break Glass to now be always prepared for when an emergency arises, and effective crisis management is of utmost importance for the safety of my loved ones and me.

What it does

Break Glass is a web-based safety resource page to find and respond to safety crucial information in the event of an international emergency.

How I built it

I built Break Glass using Framer for my front end visuals, Claude Code as my middleman, and Supabase for my backend management.

Challenges I ran into

Scope creep was a concern where I knew the potential of what this page could provide but I had to be objective in what the MVP could demonstrate in this Hackathon.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This will equip current and future travellers, young or old to be more confident in certain situations when an international crisis occurs.

What I've learned

To take in as much feedback as I can and stay open-minded.

To build it to being the most credible and trustworthy safety resource page worldwide.
