Inspiration:

As a first year at Berea College, it was hard to navigate student life without connecting with others. Ubers were hard to find or advice pertaining to my major. I was curious if there was a platform where students can connect and I was met with people saying to download different social media just to keep up or navigate through different Berea College links to find what I needed. In spite of my experience in not understanding where to find the best advice, or how transportation would work, I created BreadIt to solve this problem.

What it does

BreadIt is an online anonymous forum open to all Berea College students. Instead of navigating through numerous links to find one thing, BreadIt can take you where you need within seconds. For students who struggle to speak up during class, BreadIt's anonymity feature allows students to ask questions without hesitation. BreadIt's Professors tab brings you to a Berea College specific replica of "Rate My Professor", suggestions for campus life can be made, and you can even request rides to get around. If there are students who are unsure if they want to attend Berea College, there is a guest feature for them to browse and have a feel of how the community is like. In short, BreadIt is an all-in-one website for students to connect, travel, and help understand each other better.

How I built it

I vibe coded a good chunk of this website using Loveable. In this process, I also learned how to use TypeScript, Supabase, and Cloudfare. Within the short amount of time given, I was able to understand these concepts and implement them into this website to ensure simplicity for both the code and the user.

Challenges I ran into

Because I used this was my first time vibe coding, I my Product Requirement Document (PRD) was not super great. I ended up having to find the problems myself and relearn parts of the languages I had forgotten about.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of myself for making this website to begin with. This was an incredible accomplishment and this was my first ever hackathon. Win or lose, I'm just proud of myself for completing this.

What we learned

I learned how to vibe code a lot better. I now understand why prompt engineers starting out as a new field. This was an incredible experience and I hope to contribute so much more.

What's next for BreadIt

I would love the opportunity to actually have people use this program. I always have questions about classes, but sometimes suffer in silence and I know I'm not alone. I hope this website is a safe place where students can ask all the questions they need without judgement.
