Inspiration

I often remember that I need to finish something, but forget the details. I might find co-op postings, leave to cook lunch, and return remembering that I wanted to apply—but not which companies or postings.

BreadCrumb grew from that experience: a simple way to leave a reminder for my future self.

What it does

BreadCrumb is being built to save the context behind unfinished tasks and ideas. You can capture a short note, optional screenshot, and links without filling out a long form.

When you return, ask what you were working on. The goal is a clear reminder based on what you saved, with the original information and links so you can get back to work.

How we built it

I’m building a web app that works on both phone and laptop. Supabase stores private notes and screenshots, Google handles sign-in, and Gemini will help understand saved information and turn it into useful reminders.

The service setup is complete, and the application is currently under development.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge is making capture quick enough that people actually use it. Another is helping AI understand a screenshot without guessing what the user intended.

Keeping each person’s saved information private has also been a priority from the start.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I’ve turned a personal frustration into a focused product idea, chosen a simple design, verified Gemini’s text and image access, and tested that accounts cannot access each other’s stored information.

What I learned

Remembering a task is different from remembering enough detail to resume it. A screenshot can preserve what was visible, while a short note can preserve the thought behind it.

What's next for BreadCrumb

Finish the core capture-and-recall experience, test it across phone and laptop, and add a small browser extension for saving webpage titles and links.
