Inspiration

Every conference ends the same way: a phone full of LinkedIn requests and a head full of forgotten conversations. We realized the real problem isn’t meeting people, it’s remembering why the meeting mattered. BreadCrumb was inspired by the gap between a great conversation and a meaningful follow-up. We wanted to build something that preserves intent, not just contacts.

What it does

BreadCrumb is a smart conference companion that helps attendees capture the context behind every interaction. Users can add friends, recruiters, or mentors via QR scan or email, quickly log why the conversation mattered, and tag their intent. At the end of the day, BreadCrumb surfaces who to follow up with and why and even drafts personalized follow-ups or cover letters based on the roles users are targeting.

How we built it

We built BreadCrumb with a mobile-first experience designed for speed and minimal friction during live conversations. QR scanning enables instant contact capture, while structured notes preserve conversation memory. An AI layer personalizes follow-ups and cover letters using job roles and professional context. The backend ties together contact history, intent tagging, and smart reminders into a seamless workflow.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was designing for real human moments. Conferences are fast-paced, noisy, and social no one wants to fumble with an app mid-conversation. We also had to ensure AI-generated follow-ups felt authentic and intentional rather than generic or spammy, which required careful prompt design and UX iteration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that BreadCrumb goes beyond traditional networking tools by focusing on memory and intent. Turning a quick QR scan into a meaningful follow-up pipeline all within seconds makes the app immediately useful. Most importantly, BreadCrumb helps users take action while the conversation is still fresh.

What we learned

We learned that effective networking isn’t about volume it’s about clarity and timing. Preserving small details from conversations dramatically improves follow-ups. We also learned that AI is most powerful when it amplifies human intent instead of replacing it.

What's next for BreadCrumb

Next, we plan to integrate calendar and LinkedIn syncing, smarter follow-up prioritization, and analytics to help users track which connections turn into real opportunities. Long term, we envision BreadCrumb as the default networking companion for conferences, career fairs, and hackathons worldwide.
