                          From Leftover Feast to Full Plates: The Bread & Butter Journey

One of our team members hosted a party in his house for a special occasion, and we had a great time. However, after the party, when everyone had left and we'd enjoyed a delicious dinner, he noticed that a significant amount of untouched food remained. He felt a sense of responsibility about it, so one of us suggested the idea of donating the excess food. We decided to gather the leftover food and donate it to those in need.

Soon, we realized that food wastage was a widespread issue, especially at events held every day. This realization led to a brainstorming session, and we came to the conclusion that there's an opportunity to create a platform that can address this problem. From this idea, the prototype of 'Bread & Butter' was born.

We developed a platform that allows both users and NGOs to register and use the application. Users can generate food donation requests by providing basic details such as their name, address, phone number, quantity of food, and food type. When they submit a request, it is received by the nearest NGO. If the NGO accepts the request, the user is notified via email and the portal, and the NGO contacts the person to facilitate the donation.

One of the challenges we faced was gathering authentic data about active NGOs. Participating online also presented some workflow challenges. However, we managed to address these issues effectively.

We take pride in the fact that we're addressing a real-life problem. Many NGOs exist, but there's often a lack of accurate data about them. We've used AI models to filter and provide reliable information about NGOs. Moreover, we're contributing to reducing food waste and helping feed those in need, aligning with our tagline: 'Share a Meal, Seal the Deal! Let's Save Grain and End the Hunger Appeal!'

Throughout this project, we've learned a great deal. We conducted extensive research on hunger-related projects, learned about state-wise initiatives, and gained valuable experience working as a team. We overcame various barriers and challenges, and we learned the importance of effective communication within a team.

Looking ahead, Bread & Butter's future plans include collaborations with hotels, restaurants, and food delivery apps to scale up the project. We aim to raise awareness among the youth and continue our mission to combat food waste and hunger.
