Inspiration

When trying to come up with an idea for HooHacks, we realized that novel idea generation is hard. The biggest barrier to coming up with an idea is domain expertise and understanding where the edge of the field lies. Breach helps researchers and entrepreneurs understand the domain they want to work in. Current technologies and generative models are useful, but are not evidence-based and often give repetitive, generic ideas. Breach takes idea generation to the next level, going from keyword to a complete idea in just one go.

What It Does

We built an AI-powered innovation explorer that revolutionizes how researchers and entrepreneurs discover breakthrough technologies. Our platform seamlessly connects the worlds of academic research and industrial patents, powered by cutting-edge AI technology.

Whether you're looking to inspire your next breakthrough or refine your concept, our system makes idea generation faster, more efficient, and more informed.

How We Built It

We built this project using TypeScript and Next.js for the front-end and server-side functionality. The application leverages powerful AI algorithms that process large datasets of patents and research papers. The main feature allows users to input queries, which are then analyzed by the AI, identifying relevant patents and research, as well as the gaps in those areas that could lead to breakthrough ideas. The application is designed to be intuitive, with a smooth, user-friendly interface. We built Breach using TypeScript and Next.js for

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Data Processing: Implementing the ArXiv API and understanding how to process XML files.
  • Real-Time Analysis: Ensuring the tool could analyze data in real-time without compromising on speed and performance took considerable effort, especially with complex AI algorithms integrated into the web application.
  • UI/UX Design: Balancing simplicity with the need to display complex AI-driven insights in an understandable way was challenging. We had to iterate multiple times on the design to create a clear and actionable user experience.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We’re proud of how the tool has evolved from an initial concept to a fully functional application that can provide valuable insights into patent and research gaps. Successfully integrating the AI-powered analysis into the Next.js framework without compromising performance or usability was a significant milestone. Additionally, being able to showcase a real-world solution to a common problem in the innovation and research space is something we’re excited about.

What We Learned

We learned a lot about the intricacies of building AI-powered applications, particularly how to process large datasets efficiently and deliver meaningful results in a way that’s accessible to users. From a technical standpoint, we learned a lot about optimizing performance in a full-stack TypeScript and Next.js environment, as well as how to design a clean, intuitive user interface for complex tools. We also gained insights into the real challenges faced by researchers and innovators when navigating patent and research databases.

What's Next For Breach

Next, we plan to enhance the tool’s ability to work with more diverse datasets, including different types of research papers and patents across various industries. We also aim to improve the AI’s accuracy in identifying gaps and opportunities by training it on even more specific datasets. Future updates will focus on expanding the tool’s functionality to include collaboration features for teams of innovators, allowing them to work together more effectively. We’re also exploring the possibility of integrating machine learning models to further personalize the results for individual users based on their interests and needs.
