Inspiration

  • As an early team member of Amazon Renewed in India, I experienced firsthand one of the biggest challenges in scaling refurbished products — trust. Customers hesitated because they didn’t know who had refurbished the product or if it would truly meet quality expectations.
  • Even though demand for affordable, sustainable alternatives was growing, the lack of brand certified assurance was a major barrier. At the same time, many global brands do offer certified refurbished products today but there is no dedicated, trustworthy global marketplace as of today that brings them together — across categories, brands, and geographies — with a clear promise of brand certification.
  • That’s where the idea for Brand Refurbed was born: a platform focused exclusively on brand-certified or brand-authorized refurbished products, combining trust, sustainability, and value — all in one place.

What it does

  • Brand Refurbed is a global marketplace that features only manufacturer-certified or brand-authorized refurbished products, targeting both B2C and B2B buyers in North America and Europe. Key features:
  • Aggregates certified refurbished products from brands across categories (electronics, appliances, tools, etc.)
  • Ensures brand-backed warranties
  • Allows bulk sourcing for B2B buyers
  • Promotes environmental impact data per purchase

How we built it

  • Frontend: Bolt
  • Data Sources: Brand refurbished product pages (web scraped/API where available)
  • Design: Clean, trust-first UX focused on discoverability and transparency

Challenges we ran into

Lack of centralized data: No single API or source exists for certified refurbished products across brands.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Clearly defined a white-space opportunity in a growing $50B+ global refurbished market
  • Created a brand and category mapping of existing certified refurb programs
  • Built a modular MVP marketplace ready for testing with early users

What we learned

  • There's massive fragmentation in how brands manage refurbished sales — most don’t centralize them or market them properly.
  • Cost sensitive / Sustainability-focused consumers and B2B buyers are both underserved when it comes to trusted refurbished options. The value of Brand trust is critical

What's next for BrandRefurbed

  • Launch site with tracking links routing users to buy directly from Brand's store. Analyze the traffic & validate
  • If there is good tracking, Develop direct brand partnerships to launch end to end marketplace
  • Expand to B2B sourcing features (RFQ, bulk deals, verified resellers)
  • Explore partnerships with governments and ESG programs promoting circular economy purchases
  • Introduce a green impact tracker to quantify environmental savings per order
