Inspiration

We were inspired by the need to give individuals control over their own brainwave data while accelerating medical and neuroscience research. Data fragmentation and lack of ownership were holding back progress, so we saw an opportunity to leverage blockchain technology and NFTs to empower both users and researchers.

What it does

The Brainwave Marketplace allows users to own and share their brainwave data through NFTs on the NEAR protocol. Users collect data using the Neurosity EEG device and can choose to share it with researchers. In return, they receive cryptocurrency rewards or royalties. Researchers gain access to high-quality, standardized datasets for studies on cognitive functions, meditation, athletic performance, and more.

How we built it

We partnered with Neurosity to integrate their EEG devices with our platform. Using the NEAR protocol, we created NFTs representing ownership of users’ brainwave data. We focused on making the platform user-friendly with NEAR’s account abstraction, so no deep technical knowledge is required. We also ensured scalability and regulatory compliance throughout the development process.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was addressing privacy concerns and meeting regulatory requirements like HIPAA. We needed to design a system that protects user data while allowing for transparent sharing. Ensuring user engagement through incentives without overcomplicating the system was also a hurdle, as was standardizing data formats for interoperability.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud to have created a platform that empowers individuals to own and control their brainwave data. By combining EEG technology with blockchain and NFTs, we’ve opened new avenues for medical research. The positive feedback from both users and researchers has been incredibly rewarding.

What we learned

We learned the importance of balancing technology with user privacy and experience. Integrating blockchain into medical data sharing taught us about the complexities of regulatory compliance. We also realized how crucial incentives are in encouraging user participation and the value of collaboration across different fields.

What's next for Brainwave Market Place

We’re planning to expand our user base and bring more researchers onto the platform. We’re looking into integrating additional biometric data sources and partnering with other EEG device manufacturers. Enhancing user experience and improving data standardization are also on our roadmap. Our ultimate goal is to make high-quality brainwave data more accessible to drive advancements in neuroscience and medical research.
