Inspiration
I have ADHD, so itβs really hard for me to focus on one thing for long periods. I get distracted easily, and in my community, poor internet often makes studying even more frustrating. I wanted a tool that could help me stay organized, focus better, and make studying more manageable. Thatβs how BrainVault was born.
What it does
BrainVault is my personal study companion, built from my own struggles with ADHD and poor internet. Focusing, staying organized, and keeping up with school was exhausting and frustrating, and I wanted something that could help me and others like me feel in control of our learning. With BrainVault, you can take notes, manage tasks, create flashcards, turn pictures of your handwritten notes into questions, and even set timers to stay focused, all online or offline. Itβs more than an app itβs a little hand reaching out to help you stay on track, keep going when itβs hard, and find moments of joy and curiosity in learning, even when life feels distracting or overwhelming.
How we built it
I built BrainVault because focusing and organizing my studies was hard, and poor internet made things even more challenging. I created a multi-tab web app using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that includes timetables, notes, tasks, flashcards, study timers, and Fun Facts. I also added OCR to turn photos of notes into questions and AI-inspired suggestions to help organize learning. Everything works offline or online and supports multiple languages.
Challenges we ran into
There were times we didnβt have electricity, so I had to use my phone to build most of the app.
My laptop short-circuited, so I had to redo some work entirely.
Making the app easy to use without being overwhelming.
Ensuring tabs and accordions work smoothly across devices.
Integrating OCR completely in-browser.
Balancing offline functionality with AI features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a fully offline-capable, all-in-one study platform.
Added AI suggestions and image-based question generation.
Made the app engaging, with Fun Facts and interactive tools.
Supported multi-language functionality.
What we learned
How to structure and manage a complex web app.
How AI and OCR can enhance learning.
Designing features that balance focus, fun, and usability.
Patience finding bugs and solving problems wasnβt easy.
The value of hard work, especially when building something from scratch with limited resources.
The joy and peace of mind when it finally works.
Offline-first design can make a real difference in communities with poor connectivity.
What's next for BrainVault
If I win, I want BrainVault to grow beyond what it is today. I dream of refining every detail so it can truly help anyone who struggles with focus, organization, or poor internet. I hope to add collaboration tools, where students from different areas can log in, connect, and study together on topics they have in common. They could share notes, ask questions, and support each other, learning and growing as a community. I also want a mobile app version so BrainVault can reach anyone, anywhere, and become a companion in their studies. My wish is that it becomes more than just an app a place that inspires focus, relief, and small moments of joy in learning. I want it to touch lives, build connections, and help people feel less alone in their learning journey, while giving everyone the chance to grow together.
