Inspiration

28.2% of adults report experiencing brain fog. (Harwood et al., 2025). Symptoms include the slowing down of thoughts, difficulty concentrating, confusion. The causes of brain fog are still unknown however while researchers are still looking for the exact causes, long term brain fog destroys live and leads to anxiety and depression. While exploring this phenom I was told by a peer about Executive Dysfunction, a struggle that many people with learning disabilities (such as ADHD and Autism face).

I was experiencing this at Technica this weekend and thought, what if I made a solution?

What it does

Brainiac walks the user through the brainstorming process and assists them in coming up with their own ideas instead of providing the answer. The app promotes creative thinking and mindfulness.

How we built it

I used the low-code platform Thunkable for the UI and backend and Google Gemini's API for the AI assistant. I also used Gemini Studio to generate the logo and envision the idea (first prototype).

Challenges we ran into

It was my first time using these technologies so there was a bit of a learning curve. Thanks to the amazing Thunkable community and a bit of copilot when I didn't understand the platform, I was able to successfully build the app I envisioned.

Throughout the project I myself was experiencing brain fog. To combat my brain fog, I sketched out the user's journey with example questions, and it help direct my design process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am very proud of myself for being able to bring to life an idea that will benefit me and my peers without reducing the need for critical thought.

What's next for Brainiac

Thunkable is great as a mockup and prototype, however I would like to expand into making it a real mobile app as I am sure it will help me and others in the future.

This past summer I worked for a coding summer camp, and I discovered that many children, just like adults can deal with executive dysfunction and brain fog. My hope is that my app can be used to train them in brainstorming and problem solving.
