Inspiration

The motivation for creating a smart jar can be attributed to several factors, including: Reducing food waste: A smart jar can help consumers keep track of the freshness of their food items, preventing them from throwing away expired or spoiled items. Convenience: With a smart jar, users can easily keep track of the quantity of the contents in the jar, and receive alerts when it's time to refill. Health and wellness: A smart jar can also be used to monitor the nutritional content of the food items it contains, allowing users to make more informed choices about their diet. Overall, the motivation for a smart jar is to provide a useful tool that can help consumers make better decisions about their food, reduce waste, and promote sustainable practices.

What it does

BRAINBOX is a smart jar container which is a simple, connected device with some sensors, transmitters. Brainbox is designed with keeping the future needs in mind. A BRAINBOX is a type of food storage container equipped with various advanced features, such as sensors, Wi-Fi connectivity, and mobile app integration. The aim of a brainbox is to provide a convenient and efficient solution for food storage and organization, by helping users track food expiration dates, monitor food intake, and manage food waste. Some smart jars come with additional features such as airtight seals, adjustable compartments, and smart portion control systems.

How we built it

The smart jar  is a simple, connected device with a wi-fi module , sensors, buzzer and LED . The sensor measures the height and weight of the ingredients in the jar. With the Wi-fi Module it projects the information to the app on your phone or data collected via smart plug which will sync to your account. The app synthesizes the information and notifies you about the ingredients to shop for.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of BRAINBOX, we faced several challenges. One of the major challenges was integrating the sensors with the Wi-Fi module and the mobile app. We also had to find a way to ensure that the sensors were accurate and reliable in measuring the weight and height of the contents in the jar. Additionally, we faced some challenges in designing the app's interface to be user-friendly and intuitive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges we faced, we are proud to have developed a functional prototype of BRAINBOX. We were able to successfully integrate the sensors with the Wi-Fi module and create a mobile app that can communicate with the device. We also developed a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for users to track the contents of their jar and receive notifications about food items that need to be restocked.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we learned a lot about the challenges and opportunities in the world of IoT devices. We learned about the importance of designing devices with user needs in mind, and how to integrate various components to create a functional and reliable device. We also learned about the importance of developing a strong and intuitive mobile app that can communicate with the device and provide users with real-time information.

What's next for BRAINBOX

Moving forward, we plan to refine the design of BRAINBOX and add more advanced features to the device. Some potential areas for improvement include adding more sensors to track temperature and humidity, and integrating machine learning algorithms to provide more accurate recommendations for food items to restock. Additionally, we plan to explore partnerships with food companies and retailers to create a seamless and convenient experience for users to restock their pantry items.
