🧭 Inspiration

We were inspired by the deep meaning behind challenge coins, especially among people in service — military, police, and firefighters. These coins represent honor, trust, and shared experience. Yet, there was no digital space where people could connect, trade coins, or share the stories that make each coin special. We wanted to build a respectful and secure community where these meaningful exchanges could happen.

💡 What it does

Braav Challenge Coin is a digital platform where service members can:

  • Create a profile
  • Upload images of their challenge coins
  • Share personal stories linked to each coin
  • Chat with others and send coins

It’s a space to connect, remember, and celebrate those who serve.

🛠️ How we built it

We used React to build the front end for a smooth, responsive user experience.

  • Users can browse, upload, and interact with coins and stories
  • The UI was designed to be clean and respectful
  • The NFT integration is in progress — front end is done, backend is being developed
  • Supabase powers our backend logic
  • We use Make.com for workflow automations and removal.ai for removing backgrounds

🧱 Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing tradition with modern technology
  • Making sure the user experience felt secure, simple, and welcoming
  • Handling the technical complexity of crypto integration — backend is still a work in progress
  • Ensuring the platform felt authentic and not commercialized

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Obtained around 50 early users, including people from military and law enforcement backgrounds
  • Built a fully functioning front end with community features like profiles, chat, and coin sharing
  • Created a respectful space that truly resonates with the audience we’re serving
  • Completed the NFT front end, designed to add value while preserving the emotional core of the tradition

📚 What we learned

  • Users care more about authenticity than shiny features
  • Small touches like story sharing and direct messages matter a lot
  • Respecting the culture and emotional history behind challenge coins is essential
  • Community-first design requires constant empathy and iteration

  • Finalize the backend for NFT integration
