Introduction to BP Balance Quest

Inspiration

We were inspired by the lack of engaging, accessible tools for blood pressure education—many people find health info dry or overwhelming. We wanted to turn vital BP management knowledge into a casual game, making it easy for all ages (especially middle-aged users) to learn while playing, no medical background needed.

What it does

BP Balance Quest is a casual educational H5 game. Players move left/right to catch falling items: healthy picks (greens, jogging) lower BP and boost energy; unhealthy ones (fries) spike BP. Monitor 4 vital signs—survive by balancing indicators, and learn real BP management tips along the way.

How we built it

We used H5 tech (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) for cross-device compatibility. For gameplay, we coded fixed horizontal item tracks (3-5) and left/right movement logic. We added visual indicators (circular BP monitor, energy bars) with CSS, and optimized animations (character states, item particles) to keep performance smooth on mobile/desktop.

Challenges we ran into

Adapting to no vertical movement was tough—we had to rework item paths to avoid unreachable items. Balancing difficulty was another hurdle: we adjusted item speed and energy deduction to keep it fun, not frustrating, for all skill levels. Ensuring cross-browser consistency (Chrome/Safari/Firefox) also required extra testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We turned complex BP concepts into intuitive visuals—users grasp "diet/exercise affects BP" without reading guides. The game works seamlessly on mobile/desktop, and early tests show middle-aged users find it easy to play. Most importantly, it’s not just fun—it actually teaches practical health habits.

What we learned

We learned to prioritize user accessibility over complex features (e.g., simplifying movement to left/right). We also discovered how to balance education and gameplay—too much info breaks immersion, too little wastes the learning opportunity. Testing with target users early was key to fixing pain points fast.

What's next for BP Balance Quest

We’ll add more items (e.g., fruits, yoga) to expand health lessons. We want to add a "health score" system to track long-term progress, and social sharing so users can challenge friends. Finally, we’ll optimize for older devices to reach more people needing BP education.
