Inspiration

Our team members are from India. Recently in a historic judgement, article 377 was demolished in our country, that decriminalized gay sexual conduct . Even though it was a huge step for our country, LGBTQ+ youth still faces the stigma and trauma associated with the community. So, our inspiration was to create a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community in India, and connecting them to the resources, activists and like minded people, so that they can create a change.

What it does

BOWIE aims to create a safe space, where everyone is celebrated for who they are. We have created different sections that connects people to ongoing fundraisers, queer owned small businesses, educational podcasts, standups, activists - a platform that brings about digital activism in a world constrained by the pandemic. We also showcased blogs and art by queer people that brings about a ray of hope in the community.

How we built it

We built this mobile application using dart language in flutter and designed it using figma.

Challenges we ran into

Making an app in such a short time was a challenge for us but our team tried hard and were able to complete the project successfully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created an app which is more comfortable for our users as they can access these resources on their mobile rather than logging into websites. Also, if after this hackathon, Bowie is launched into the world it will be a huge step in bringing the community closer.

What we learned

Making an app about a community that two of our members knew less about , it gave them an opportunity to learn about the LGBTQ+ movement, do research and they came out as strong allies. As a team making an app together we learned so much about working the back-end codes and teamwork.

What's next for BOWIE- The LGBTQ+ Movement

We hope that we can launch this in the world and make it a fully functional community.
