Inspiration
The inspiration for Bounce Out came from popular multiplayer obstacle course games like Fall Guys. I wanted to create a fast-paced, fun, and visually engaging environment where players could race, jump, and survive crazy challenges together. The idea was to combine competitive gameplay with playful obstacles, encouraging both skill and creativity in overcoming the course.
How we built it
I built the game entirely on Meta Horizon Worlds, using a combination of scripting and modeling. First, I created a plan and defined the scope of the project, then used TypeScript, Blender, and Inkscape for scripting and design. I designed the course with modular obstacles that could be easily reused and rearranged for different levels. Each obstacle was carefully tested to ensure smooth player interactions and balanced difficulty. I also focused on the visual style, using bright colors and simple shapes to keep the environment clear and accessible.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing the obstacle difficulty while maintaining fun and fairness for players of all skill levels. I also faced technical challenges with scripting complex interactions and ensuring the game ran smoothly for multiple players simultaneously. Through this process, I learned a lot about player experience design, scripting logic, and optimizing performance in a multiplayer environment.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Successfully built a full multiplayer obstacle course game entirely solo.
- Created smooth and responsive player mechanics using TypeScript.
- Integrated 3D models from Blender and custom textures from Inkscape seamlessly into the game.
- Developed a progression and scoring system to track rounds and winners.
- Balanced obstacle difficulty to make the game challenging yet fun for all players.
- Optimized performance for multiplayer gameplay to run smoothly in Meta Horizon Worlds.
What We Learned
- Designed and implemented modular obstacles that can be reused across multiple levels.
- Gained new skills in game design, 3D modeling, scripting, and project planning.
- Improved understanding of multiplayer optimization and player experience.
- Learned to troubleshoot challenges in balancing difficulty and gameplay mechanics.
What's next for Bounce Out
I plan to expand Bounce Out by adding more levels, unique obstacles, and player customization options. I also aim to implement an advanced ranking and reward system to increase engagement and replayability, along with improved visual and audio feedback to make the game even more immersive.
