BotDex
🧠 Inspiration We wanted to create a space where every kind of ramble, rant, or meltdown had a bot that just got it. Whether you're spiraling, oversharing, hyping yourself up, or just vibing in meme chaos, BotDex was built to be your emotional buffet. Each bot brings its own flavor, from roast-level honesty to calm, empathetic support; because sometimes, what you need most is a smart-mouthed digital friend who listens (or yells with you).
🤖 The Bots: Each bot in BotDex has a unique personality, tone, and way of interacting with you. Together, they create a chaotic but deeply human experience:
- The Cyber Bully Bot – Roasts you for your bad habits and doesn’t hold back
- The Advisor Bot – Offers real cybersecurity tips in a helpful, supportive tone
- The Empath Bot – Listens and comforts you when you’re overwhelmed
- The Roast Bot – Turns your confessions into comedy (and still gives good advice)
- The Hype Bot – Matches your energy and hypes you up like a best friend
- The Calm Bot – Slows things down and helps you de-stress
- The Meme Lord Bot – Responds with chaotic good humor, memes, and Gen Z energy
Each bot has a name, title, color, and image. When you click on a bot, you open a modal with its personality-driven message.
🎯 Challenges We Ran Into Balancing Humor & Helpfulness: Making the bots entertaining without losing the core focus on cyber hygiene Frontend Integration: Animating fog, stars, and dynamic modals while maintaining responsiveness Tone Calibration: Writing 7 unique voices was harder than expected — especially keeping each tone consistent Too Much Static: Making the bots interactive without live AI responses meant lots of hardcoded logic
🏆 Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of Created a fully themed UI with dreamy volumetric fog, twinkling stars, and bot modals that feel alive Wrote 7 unique personas that range from empathetic to chaotic Created a project that’s actually fun to use; people (just us tbh ) laughed out loud when they (we) tried it
📚 What We Learned:
- How to work with Three.js shaders for aesthetic effects like fog and starfields
- How important tone and microcopy are in user engagement
- That even basic interactivity can make educational tools feel alive
- How much personality matters when designing AI agents — and how it affects trust, retention, and recall
- How important it is to not push into the main branch simultaneously
🔮 What’s Next for BotDex
- Integrate real-time AI: Let users actually talk to bots using OpenAI or a lightweight model
- Create a “build your own bot” feature: Let users design a bot with their own tone and vibe
- Gamify cyber hygiene: Introduce a scorecard based on your interactions and behaviors
- Turn BotDex into a browser extension that checks your behavior in real-time and reacts like your chosen persona
