8 ancestral languages ​​only in Ecuador are in danger of extinction, Ecuador lost 2 in recent years, when a language disappears an entire world disappears, a worldview, a cultural legacy is lost. According to the ONU Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, although indigenous peoples make up less than 6% of the world's population, they speak more than 4,000 languages. Of these 420 belong to Latin America and 26% are in danger of extinction, some in Ecuador, where between 2012 and 2017 the Andean and Sapara languages ​​were extinguished, when the last two people who spoke them died. I want to create a tool that helps keep ancestral languages ​​alive

What it does

I am developing a Facebook Messenger bot that helps keep ancestral languages ​​alive and thus avoid disappearance since when a language disappears, a worldview is lost

  1. The bot It allows you to translate words and phrases from Spanish or English to Kichwa ancestral language of Ecuador, through a community network of translators who know the language
  2. Maintains, manages and gives the meaning of words that are added to the dictionary as they are asked the bot
  3. Use natural processing language to identify the words that people want to translate
  4. Allows you to enter phrases or words since many words have no literal translation and an interpretation of the phrase or word you want to translate is used using synonyms or interpreted words that give meaning to the word the user is looking for in this language

How I built it

Use the Facebook Messenger API, Dialogflow Api to include data directly in the entities, Api Whatsapp to send message to whatsapp group with the word that does not identify the messenger bot

Challenges I ran into

learn the integrations of the different api facebook, google, dialogflow, whatsapp and be able to integrate them in a single bot

understand a little how the Kichwa language is and see the tool that best suits this purpose for natural processing language and through dialogflow api integrate the new words into the entity

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that it is a functional prototype, it has 1000 initial words that are in the Spanish or English dictionary that will remain in time, since people will know what this beautiful ancient Kichwa language is like

What I learned

that we can all contribute with a grain of sand to make this world a better place, and always be proud of where we come from with our traditions, languages and customs

What's next for Bot Interpreter of ancestral languages

use it in real situations, and feed it with more information since there are many words that have no translation, there is used an interpreter of the ancentral language who can orient in a better way
